NANTICOKE -- It was 25 years ago that the Nanticoke Area Trojanette basketball team completed an undefeated season, winning the team's first and only state championship.
The women who swept the season and inspired their city were reunited and recognized Wednesday night.
Inside the gym of the Greater Nanticoke High School, it was standing room only as the school and the community wound the clock back to 1990 and welcomed back these ladies.
Holly Cozlowski Udzello and Casey Comoroski were guards on the 1990 Trojanettes basketball team.
"It's just really a surreal moment to have us all back together and probably re-living probably the best times of our lives," said Cozlowski Udzello.
"I have not seen some of my teammates in 25 years and to be able to catch up and look through the books and to have the memories of what we'd done through that whole season, through our four years of high school, and obviously the championship game, it's been incredible tonight,' said Comoroski.
At 5'1", Comoroski was one of the team's stars, scoring nearly half of the team's points during the state championship game.
In the 1990 season, these ladies played 30-0 and won the team's first and only state championship title.
"The crowds, that was my biggest memory, the support that we had, the lines of people getting tickets," said forward Lori Scally Zaleski.
Now, 25 years after that undefeated season, the school reunited the team to recognize what that victory meant to the community.
"Back then you are 17-18 years old. You couldn't really grasp the profound impact you had on yourselves or the town or the teammates," Cozlowski Udzello said.
Alan Yendrzeiwski was in sixth grade during the 1990 season and remembers the way the town was inspired that year, the way he was inspired. He's now the head coach of the Trojanettes.
"Even just to be a part of this in my small little way for this evening and to be the coach of this program. I am just extremely honored. I am really excited just to be here tonight for all of this," Yendrzeiwski said.
The theme for the undefeated season back in 1990 was "Once in a Lifetime."
25 years later, that theme still has a ring of truth.
