Tree dedication held in Luzerne County

The Wyoming Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a special dedication ceremony at the Luzerne County Courthouse on Monday.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — An organization held a special dedication ceremony in Luzerne County.

Members of the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution gathered on the north lawn of the Luzerne County Courthouse Monday afternoon to dedicate the America 250 Tree.

The dedication comes in preparation for the 250 Years of America celebration in 2026.

The tree honors the memory of the revolutionary men and women who bravely fought for America's independence. Some of those major battles were fought right within Luzerne County.

"So it means a lot to me personally because somebody stood up and said, you know, this is the right thing to do, and it didn't matter what it meant they took their lives or they came back handicapped, so it's important, and we shouldn't forget that because we all need that no matter who you are you have to have something to believe in," said Alice Keiner, Daughters of the American Revolution.

The tree project includes one planted in each of Pennsylvania's 67 counties.
