PLAINS TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- An SUV slammed through a warehouse in Luzerne County Friday afternoon.
It happened just before 2 p.m. at the Jay-Dee Shoe Warehouse on South Main Street in Plains Township.
A pair of shoes sits on top of the SUV that crashed into Jay-Dee Sneaker King in Plains Township around 2 p.m. Friday.
Assistant Manager Jennifer Doran was inside when the driver went right through the store.
"I sort of want to hug my son! I'm thankful, I'm just thankful," Jennifer Doran.
Police believe the driver likely had a medical problem when he slammed into to the building.
Doran and four customers were also inside at the time. No one was hurt, but the driver was taken to the hospital.
"It was luck that no one was over there, it was luck that I wasn't over there."
People crowded around to see the SUV get pulled out of the building.
Andrea McElrea says she was pumping her gas this afternoon when she heard the crash. She says she shops at the store all the time.
"My husband buys all his boots here for work. It's kind of sad because it kind of doesn't look like the building is salvageable," McElrea said.
This isn't the first time a vehicle has crashed into Jay-Dee Sneaker King. Employees say the place has been around for almost 70 years and there have been four wrecks into the building.
"There has been a couple of crashes but nothing like this before," said Robert Zendezion.
Despite all this, employees hope the store is up and running soon.
"We've already called people to board it up, it'll be boarded up. So I'm sure it'll just be a day or two and we'll be back in business," Doran said.
Police say once the building is boarded up, a code inspector will make the final call as to when the store can reopen.
