Student Art to Welcome Travelers

Travelers passing through Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport on their summer getaway will find a new lounge and some new artwork on display

AVOCA, Pa. — People now have something to look at while waiting for their flight or bus at the Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport.

The airport commissioned local middle and high school students from Luzerne and Lackawanna counties to display their artwork in the new lower boarding lounge. It's for a project called "Our Region Through The Eyes of Children."

Organizers say they wanted travelers to get a feel for everything the area has to offer through bright and colorful art.

Students from Hazleton Area Arts & Humanities Academy, Pittston Area High School, Dunmore High School, Old Forge High School, All Saints Academy, and Wyoming Valley Montessori School unveiled their artwork at the airport in Luzerne County on Thursday.

"This is another wonderful collaboration between Luzerne and Lackawanna County, and what a great asset for our airport for the passengers to be able to come through and look at the artwork. The beautiful artwork," said Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport Board Vice Chair LeeAnn McDermott

Airport officials wanted to decorate the new lower boarding lounge with art that means something to the community, such as Lake Scranton in the fall or the Pittston Stone Bridge.
