PITTSTON, Pa. — Parade goers in Pittston were well equipped with rain boots, ponchos, tents, umbrellas and jackets.
7-year-old Mackenzie was not the only one with that game plan. She was joined by hundreds who stepped out to watch.
In the annual Pittston City St. Patrick's Parade. Rain gear was not the only thing needed for a proper celebration.
"So we had to get outfits and we had to get a chair accessories, fun stuff to wear and then the horns are big," said Madi Osticco from Pittston.
"Because we're Irish, you gotta keep on drinking. It doesn't matter about the weather. We just want to party and have a great time and we gotta get candy for the kids you know they come here for candy," said Leighanne Tompko from Philadelphia.
When the rain let up, floats made sure to replace the droplets with candy adding to the excitement and fullfillment.
"I love the parade day. It's an awesome day. Whether it rains or not," said a parade-goer.
Everyone shared this spirit and continued the tradition on parade day.
"It makes people happy and it lifts spirits, and it brings the community together," added Brooke William from Pittston.
"Just a good thing to keep the people entertained and have a good time. You know, it's gonna be probably raining in Ireland anyway," said Philip Ioanna, a member of the Cino Paci Band.
Over the last 10 years, the parade says it's drawn more than 100,000 people to the city for the celebration in Pittston.
