Shop and Sip for Scholarship in Luzerne County

Newswatch 16's Chelsea Strub stopped by a place in Mountain Top that is holding a fundraiser centered on repurposing clothing and accessories.

MOUNTAIN TOP, Pa. — Next month, an event space at the Broadway Tavern in Mountain Top may be unrecognizable.

Pam McGovern is co-owner of the tavern and the president of the Mountain Top Welcome Club.

"We are a social and philanthropical group, and we just do a lot of different things, from highway cleanup to Easter baskets for the kids, families use the food bank," McGovern said.

The group has been collecting women's clothing accessories and will transform the tavern for a special shopping event next month called Shop & Sip for Scholarship, which will benefit a Crestwood School District scholarship fund.

"We're going to have sangria, and the bar will be open, and people could come browse through the clothes, buy clothes. And then we'll have some games in the bar during break times," McGovern said. "It was just something we thought was fun and a good way to get back to the community."

In addition to all these donations already collected, Women's Boutique and Consignment in Mountain Top will also be donating items.

"People are always cleaning out their closets from one season to the next. Here at the Women's Boutique, we consign a lot of stuff, but we also have people that bring in donations that they don't want to consign, and they just want to give out. There's a lot of people in need. So, we have a chain that we usually give, this time, where we're giving it to raise money," Misty Kazmierski said.

The event is on Sunday, April 7, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

If you would like to donate any women's clothing or accessories to the event, you can drop them off at the Broadway Tavern on Route 309.
