LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — A line of snowblowers sits outside Old Mill Pine Hardware on Exeter Avenue in West Pittston, all fixed up ahead of this weekend's winter weather.
"It was pretty hectic in the beginning, but we are getting caught up now."
Joseph Adonizio is the manager of the repair shop. He says the phone has been ringing off the hook all week with people looking to get their snowblowers serviced and repaired. But that rush was expected since it always gets busy right before the first big snow of the winter.
This week, they've gotten more than a dozen snowblowers out the door.
"Mostly fuel issues; sometimes they have sheer pins broken off in the augers. Sometimes the belts get broken inside the middle of the machine, things like that," said Adonizio.
On top of being busy with repairs, staff say lots of customers are coming in to pick up parts.
"Some people come in for fuel lines, some people come in for air filters, some carburetor parts. They will fix them on their own. And lots of spark plug sales," said Adonizio.
While most people are thinking about the snow cleanup, others are looking ahead to warmer temperatures.
"We had a couple of lawn mowers in the beginning of the week; we have three of them out there. We are going to get to them as soon as we get done with the snowblowers."
Staff at Old Mill Pine Hardware recommend giving your snowblower a good look over for any issues before firing it up for the season.
