HAZLETON, Pa. — Scorching temperatures and music filled the air at City View Park in Hazleton Friday night for the first-ever Rockin' the Mountain.
"It's very hot out," said Hunter Winters of Hazleton.
"It's a summer concert series three weeks in a row, six different bands play, and it's a great time. We have food vendors, a lot of shade a lot of seats," said Ali McKittrick, Hazleton Parks and Recreation Director.
With temperatures hovering around the 90s, some concertgoers relied on pavilion seating and other cooling methods to get through the heat. At the beverage tent, members of the Diamond Fire company sold lots of drinks and bottles of water to help people stay cool.
"Our guys are going to be pushing the drinks as best they possibly can, we are pushing a lot of water to people as well to keep hydrated. We're all out here to have some fun," said John Nilles, Diamond Fire Company President.
While cooling tents offered hundreds of visitors a break from the tunes and sunshine, Amy Krum of Hazle Township sought a frozen treat to help cool off.
"I was only thirsty, not really hungry right now, so it's really quenching my thirst a lot and cooling me off a little bit."
Along with the heat, Kristin Krum says the music is a welcome addition the whole community can enjoy.
"I think it's great to have these kinds of events where everybody can just come out. Enjoy the food. Enjoy the music, enjoy the beautiful weather, and enjoy this time together as a community," said Kristin Krum of Hazle Township.
While it is unknown how long the high temperatures will be around, Rockin' the Mountain will be back in Hazleton on June 28th and July 5th.
