KINGSTON -- It was a big day for the Kingston community. The new pool opened to the public after undergoing a million dollar makeover.
Although the weather wasn't ideal for opening day Saturday, many people still showed up to take a dip.
Eager swimmers didn't waste any time jumping right into the new community pool.
"It's very nice that our community got together to build this wonderful pool for the community to swim in," said Kyle Matthews of Kingston.
The pool has been a staple in the community for the last 51 years. When it closed for the season last year, renovations began.
One year and one million dollars later, it's a whole new place.
"It's a great place. They get to come here and meet new friends, see old friends. It's a great social setting to hang out with everyone and they have a great time at the pool," said pool manager Allie Kane.
The makeover was made possible thanks to state money and money from the borough. Upgrades include expansions to the pool, a baby pool, slides, handicap accessibility, and a splash area.
"There are new slides and I always wanted slides in this pool," said Leneah Davis of Kingston.
An old feature was able to be worked into the new design: the high dive. Kids love it and are happy it was able to be preserved.
"That was a really important feature of last year that we were able to save and keep with the pool this year, so that is another staple that we are hopefully going to bring back for another 50 years," Kane added.
The weather wasn't ideal for opening day, but the crowd didn't seem to mind.
"It's not the best weather, but we were coming anyway," Willeen Jackson of Kingston said.
"Well, as long as it's not raining, it's still good to be in the pool," said Julian Everitt of Kingston.
Julian has been looking forward to the pool opening for quite some time. He's happy it opened on time.
"At first, I thought that they were going to be like a week or two late, but they proved me wrong," he said.
If you plan on making a splash at the pool in Kingston, memberships and daily passes are available at the front entrance.
