Vigil held for Patricia Moreton in Wilkes-Barre

People gathered outside of the Luzerne County Courthouse in Wilkes-Barre to remember Patricia Moreton, who was killed back in 2006.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — A gathering of people outside the Luzerne County Courthouse in Wilkes-Barre to remember Patricia Moreton, who was killed back in 2006. Her murder has yet to be solved.

This has become an annual tradition for Moreton's family for the past 18 years to keep her memory alive and in the hopes her tragic story can come to an end.

"To let people know that she really was somebody to us and that, till this day, we still hurt and we still cry," said Cathy Stephens, Moreton's sister.

Moreton was killed inside her apartment back in January of 2006.  Investigators said Moreton was shot in the head. Even after so much time has passed, Moreton's' family remembers her fondly and shares stories with the next generation who never met her.

"Yeah, we talk about Patty and tell crazy stories to all our kids. Some of them, they never got to meet her. Some of them did, the older ones did, but the younger ones, they know her because we talk about her," added Stephens.

There was some hope that the case would be solved in 2018.  A man attended the vigil and told Stephens he had information about her sister's murder. Unfortunately, police determined that the man had given them false information.

"He tried to help give us closure, even though that's not what was happening. You know, he built our hopes up to shoot them down," Stephens said.

Moreton's family still hopes they will get answers before too many years pass. Stephens says the only thing keeping them going is their faith.

"If he doesn't have the answer to us. He's going to answer to the man upstairs one day, but either way, Patty will eventually get her justice. You know, she'll get what she deserves because no matter what she did or didn't do, nobody, and I don't care who you are, nobody deserves that," added Stephens.

Stephens says investigators are taking tips in this case.  If you have any information, you can call Wilkes-Barre Police.
