Presidential historian discusses Trump assassination attempt

Larry Cook spoke with Newswatch 16 about what the FBI is now considering an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — A presidential historian in Luzerne County spoke with Newswatch 16 about his take on what investigators have now confirmed as an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Larry Cook has spent decades studying presidents, their lives, and legacies and even gives a full talk to crowds around the country about presidential assassinations and assassination attempts.

Cook says at times like these, it's the candidate or the official's family he thinks about the most, "All of these people that that are presidents and former presidents, they're all people. They all have families just like all of us and I'm sure President Trump's family was very worried and very shocked when they, when they saw this happen, they probably saw it happen in real time many of them. And so you know again, I'm hoping that America's response in general is what it should be in concern for our leaders and concerns for our country."

There is no word yet on the identity of the suspect after the shooting in Butler County.
