Potential winner for 117th State House District

Weeks after the primary election, there is a potential winner for the 117th State House district.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Weeks after Pennsylvania's Primary Election, there is a projected winner for the Republican nomination in the 117th State House district.

12 provisional ballots were opened and tallied on Friday. The Luzerne County Bureau of Elections says those votes were delayed in being counted due to challenges and appeals.

Currently, Jaime Walsh is ahead by five votes over incumbent representative Mike Cabell.

Two provisional ballots have yet to be counted and are being appealed to the state supreme court.

Despite that, Jamie Walsh says the race is over, and he is looking forward to serving the people as there is no Democrat on the ballot in November.

"I'm asking Mike Cabell to concede at this point. It's been enough. He can certainly; it's his right to ask for a recount. I'm up by five votes. For them to find five votes all in one favor and it's just not realistic," said Jamie Walsh, Challenger 117th District.

In a statement, Representative Cabell says he's moving forward with that appeal to the state's supreme court and is considering filing a petition for a recount.
