Plymouth homicide victim ID'd; her son named as suspect

Investigators have provided more details on the death of a Luzerne County woman on Wednesday.

PLYMOUTH, Pa. — A homicide victim in Luzerne County has been identified, and state police say the suspect in the crime is her son.

The Luzerne County coroner said Ann Murphy, 66, died from stab wounds and head trauma.

Police were called Wednesday to a home in the 200 block of Gardner Street in Plymouth and found the victim dead in the home.

State police now tell us that the person suspected of killing Murphy is her son, Elliot Steed, 36.

A search warrant details how cameras in the neighborhood showed Steed leaving his mother's home just before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Troopers believe Steed drove his mother's vehicle more than 100 miles to a hospital in Flemington, New Jersey.

According to the search warrant, Steed was acting erratically and told hospital employees that his family was trying to kill him.

Police in New Jersey took Steed into custody on charges related to a domestic incident in Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. In that case, he's accused of pulling out a gun and threatening to kill his girlfriend.

Steed has not yet been charged with his mother's death in Plymouth.
