Farm in Hunlock Creek offers pig yoga

Nikki Krize tries pig yoga at Buttinhead Farms.

HUNLOCK CREEK, Pa. — At Buttinhead Farms in Luzerne County, it's time to unwind with swine.  Piggy yoga is the newest activity on the farm.

Owner Ashley Raspen has been hosting goat yoga for about five years and wanted to do something different.  She trains the pigs on her farm and they are very friendly.

"We flow through a yoga practice while the pigs are in their pig world.  We are in their world so what ever they feel like doing, it's what we do.  We snort, we find our inner pig.  It's animal therapy.  It's nothing but laughter," Ashley Raspen said.

Raspen says piggy yoga is a way to escape and it's very therapeudic.

"Just sitting here allowing the pigs to do their thing, you get down with the pigs and they can kiss your face.  It feels good.  It's just slowing things down," Raspen said.

April Petroski of Hanover attended the first piggy yoga class at Buttinhead Farms and plans to come again.

"They just make you laugh, especially when it's very stressful.  We did a Saturday morning, after the work week and having the pigs run around and just play with us while we were doing yoga, just a lot of fun," April Petroski said.

Buttinhead Farms also offers donkey yoga and farm yoga with a combination of chickens, donkeys and goats.

Their upcoming events include a piggy painting this Saturday at 3:30pm and pig yoga on the 31st at 10:00am.

On September 7th, they will have goat racing at Mohegan. The event is free.

You can register for these events and more on the Buttinhead Farms wesbite.
