Performing arts showcase in Luzerne County

Performers from schools near and far showcased their talents at the Lake-Lehman Performing Arts Showcase on Saturday.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Twirlers, dancers, color guard, and other performers from schools near and far showcased their talents at the Lake-Lehman Performing Arts Showcase.

"They're from local, as close as Hazelton, and then also as far away as places like Kutztown, so regional as well," said Becki Brandenburg, Co-chair for the Lake-Lehman Performing Arts Showcase.

Brandenburg says this performing arts showcase is very special for Lake-Lehman. It is being held at Lake-Lehman for the first time in 17 years.

Students and performers are most excited that local friends and family will finally be able to see them perform. High schooler Lilley Brandenburg says she's excited for people in the county to finally see what Lake-lehman's performing arts is all about.

"Usually, we have to drive two hours out because we're the only ones around here, so it's a lot easier, and I think it's just great to get it out there and let people around here see what it's like," said Lilley Brandenburg, a student at Lake-Lehman High School.

Performers that place well in the competition will move on to higher-level showcases.

"I feel like it's definitely an honor to be here while they're doing the show like, they could've done it at any time, and we get to do it, and it's kind of like that's amazing," said Amelia Brown, Lake-Lehman color guard performer.

A performer in the showcase hopes this brings in more support from the community for Lake-Lehman's Performing Arts.

"I hope it can open the eyes of so many people to see what we do," said Logan Guenthner, Lake-Lehman indoor percussion performer.

All of the proceeds from the event are going towards Lake-Lehman high school's band. Lake-Lehman High School hopes this showcase is the first of many more at the school.
