Overnight bridge work to shut down stretch of Interstate 81 in Luzerne County

Work is scheduled for overnight hours this week. Construction planned for Monday has been called off.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Interstate 81 northbound and southbound will be closed for several nights this week for bridge work in Luzerne County, according to PennDOT.

Work planned for Monday night has been postponed.

Work will take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. in the area of the Suscon Road overpass bridge.

  • Tuesday, June 27 - Interstate 81 northbound;
  • Wednesday, June 28 – Interstate 81 southbound; 
  • Thursday, June 29 – Interstate 81 northbound and tentatively southbound;
  • Friday, June 30 - Interstate 81 northbound or southbound (makeup day if there are delays due to weather.)

PennDOT will implement the following detours:

  • From Interstate 81 northbound, take Exit 175 (Dupont/Pittston) to Route 315 to the Interstate 81 on-ramp in Avoca.
  • From Interstate 81 southbound, take Exit 178 (Avoca) to Route 315 to the Interstate 81 on-ramp in Dupont/Pittston.
