Outage causes travel frustrations at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport

The effects of tech outages affected people at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport. Newswatch 16's Nikki Krize spoke with frustrated passengers.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport was a busy place Friday morning, but for the first part of the day, passengers were not going anywhere. One flight was canceled and several were delayed during Friday morning's global outage.

"United Airlines right now is putting people on the plane, but they have to go through a manual process, which makes it a little more tedious than it would normally," said Carl Beardsley, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport Executive Director.

Early this morning, major U.S. Airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines, grounded flights. Newswatch 16 spoke with several frustrated passengers who were trying to figure out what was going on.

"Every article we read they say even counter staff don't know anything. Fun! You know, it makes for a long day. Everyone wants to go home on a Friday," said Jessica Caruso from Las Vegas.

Officials at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport say currently everything seems fine and they will continue to monitor the situation.
