New summer concert series in Hazleton

The new summer concert series, 'Rockin' the Mountain,' is a free event for all ages in Hazleton's City View Park.

Everybody wants to unwind on a Friday night; Hazletonians will have just the place to do that this summer, just 5 minutes from the Pennsylvania Theatre of Performing Arts on West Broad Street.

After years of success with Wilkes-Barre's 'Rockin' the River Music Series,' county officials have decided it was time to share the fun in Hazleton with the new summer concert series, 'Rockin' the Mountain.'

"Today, we're proud to announce that the last two Fridays of June and the first Friday of July, the Rockin' The Mountain series will come to City View Park. We have a great lineup of music. We have a Fleetwood Mac tribute, an Elton John tribute, a Billy Joel tribute," said Alan Stout, Executive Director of Visit Luzerne County.

A music series is a free event for all ages in Hazleton's City View Park, a place Mayor Jeff Cusat says is 'a true hidden gem buried in the coal region'.

He hopes this will bring the community closer together.

"I always say music and sports are what bring people together. No matter what language you speak, what your ethnicity is. You put them in that environment, you know, sports, music, and everybody can get along," said the Mayor of Hazleton, Jeff Cusat.

Luzerne County manager Romilda Crocamo thought it was crucial to include the southern part of the county in a tradition like Rockin' the River.

She says the original plan for Rockin' the Mountain's first year was just one concert.

"We met with Alan, and then we met with the mayor, and then, of course, it bloomed into three concerts," added Crocamo.

Crocamo reminds us to bring one of the most important things to the concert series.

"Bring your friends and your air guitar," said Crocamo.
