Pickleball courts open in Wilkes-Barre

If you're looking for a place to play pickleball, there's a new court to hit at Barney Farms Park.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Pickleball courts are growing in popularity across the nation, now there's one here in Wilkes-Barre.

Mayor George Brown held an official opening of the courts at Barney Farms Park Wednesday afternoon.

It took DPW crews 5 weeks to add the courts, install new lighting, and add sidewalks and benches.

"Anytime that our guys could get off the back of packer and stop picking up, stop picking up garbage they get excited because they get to use their brains, they get to use their hands, and as you could see most of the stuff that happened here was their idea." said David Lewis, Wilkes-Barre DPW Supervisor.

The entire project cost around $7,000.

Mayor Brown hopes to get more pickleball courts at the park in Wilkes-Barre by next year.
