New information on Wilkes-Barre investigation

Officials in Luzerne County have confirmed unidentified remains were found in a home on Carlisle Street.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Authorities in Luzerne County are providing more information on an ongoing investigation in Wilkes-Barre.

Unidentified remains were found in the basement of a home on 142 Carlisle Street, according to a release from Police Chief Joseph Coffay, Luzerne County Coroner Jillian Matthews, and District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce.

Police responded to the home Tuesday evening.

Due to the state of decomposition of the remains, the coroner and city police contacted Mercyhurst University in Erie to assist with removal and determination as to whether the remains are human. Removal was completed on Wednesday, and the remains were taken to Mercyhurst, where an examination is expected to begin next week.

Investigators say they are trying to find the residents of the home over the course of the past 12 to 24 months.

Anyone with information is asked to contact The Wilkes-Barre Detective Division c/o Lt Mathew Stash at 570-208-0911 or Detective James Conmy at 570-208-6775.
