KINGSTON -- A new business has opened its doors in Luzerne County and it’s taking over a spot left vacant by a former roller skating rink.

Vive Gym is now open in Kingston and the state-of-the-art gym already has about 300 members.

Here at Vive Gym in Kingston, those looking to work out can work up a sweat in style.

Employees here boast about a brand new fitness center that offers the newest equipment, hands-on help, training and nutritional advice.

“We really believe that exercise is a form of medicine and we try and treat the entire individual from a holistic approach,” said Paul Meshyock, Vive’s general manager.

Even better, the gym is taking a spot left vacant on Third Avenue after the Roller King skating rink closed.

“The Roller King was shut down for probably seven years and there was not a lot of life back here,” said Vive's owner, Diane McAliney. “I just felt it was a great location because it's between Pierce Street and the Cross Valley and a lot of people cut through here.”

While this was Vive's grand opening, the gym has been open for about seven weeks.

The membership fee is $70 dollars a month but for the roughly 300 people who have already joined every dollar is worth it for all the center has to offer.

Here in the locker rooms, there's a sauna, towel service, hair dryers and showers with shampoo and conditioner.

“I'm from northern Virginia outside D.C. and this is what I was used to there,” said member Robbie Peterson. “Just top quality, state-of-the-art equipment, great showers.”

“It's called octane fitness and you almost can move in a new, different direction than regular elliptical bikes,” said member Loren Grossman. “You can to one side, develops the quads that you need to develop, great for skiing.”

Getting assistance from a trainer or nutritionist will cost you extra, but classes, such as yoga and spinning, come with your membership.

“Absolutely worth it, I think that all the instructors seem to be certified and know what they're doing which is a big help,” said member Don Warren.

Vive also has a snack and smoothie bar that is open to the public, no membership needed.
