Man sentenced in Wilkes-Barre shooting

Julio Rivas was sentenced to 2 1/2 to 7 years in prison after pleading no contest to aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and other charges.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — A man could spend up to 7 years in prison after a shooting at a barbershop in Wilkes-Barre.

Police say Julio Rivas shot the owner of New Flow Barbershop at Carey Avenue and Academy Street in the city back in May of 2023.

Rivas pleaded no contest earlier this month to aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and an illegal gun charge.

A no-contest plea means Rivas does not admit guilt but agrees to be sentenced as if he did.

Rivas was sentenced Tuesday to 2 1/2 to 7 years in prison.
