HAZLETON, Pa. — Police in Luzerne County obtained a warrant this week for a man they believe raped two teenage girls last summer.

Edwin Burgos is wanted in Hazleton on several counts of rape, sexual assault, and unlawful contact with a minor. According to charging documents, the 21-year-old Burgos came to know a 16-year-old girl by messaging her on Instagram.

While the pair were at Burgos' apartment in Hazleton in August, police believe Burgos raped her. Weeks later, Burgos allegedly raped the victim's 16-year-old friend.

The girls went to the police in October.

Police pulled Burgos over on Jan. 19 and interviewed him. During that interview, they learned his phone number was the same number the victims provided, his car matched the description of the one given by the victims, and Burgos lived at the address where the victims said they had been assaulted.

After a lengthy investigation, investigators filed charges against Burgos on Tuesday.

He remained at large early Wednesday afternoon.
