BUTLER TOWNSHIP -- A man who many in Luzerne County consider a local hero was put to rest Monday. Joseph Hollock of Mountain Top died last week at 92 years old.
Hollock served during World War II. He was also a Fairview Township police officer and later worked as state constable.
"He loved God, his country, and family more than anyone I had ever seen,” said his son, Barry Hollock.
Public service was important to Hollock. He was one of the founding members of the Mountain Top Ambulance Association.
The veteran also was a hero to his family. His great grandson decided to serve because he looked up to his grandfather. Now, he says he'll be looking up to him in heaven.
"He was drafted and he didn't have the choice, but made the choice to serve. And it's inspirational to be able to serve after him,” said Spc. Ryan Lake, his great-grandson.
"He was very hard working. He always kept two jobs, but he never told me 'maybe later' or 'I'm too busy.' He always had time for me,” said Chuck Lake, his grandson.
A life long-lived, and one his family believes will be remembered for generations.
