WYOMING, Pa. — A man is locked up tonight in Luzerne County on theft charges.
Wyoming Area Regional Police say 34-year-old Nolan Emory, of Tobyhanna, and a woman, posed as a different couple to open a bank account at a bank in Wyoming Borough.
Then, they deposited a check for close to $195,000 from the US Treasury made out to the couple they were posing as.
The bank became suspicious when the social security numbers the pair provided did not match the names they were using, and contacted the couple named on the check to verify.
The victims relayed that they had not opened the bank account. They also said they never received the treasury check.
When Emory returned to the bank with documents that he said could verify his identity, police took him into custody.
Emory had a driver's license, two bank cards, and a social security card- all in the victim's name.
He faces forgery, identity theft, receiving stolen property, and criminal conspiracy charges.
He is in locked up in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility, bail was set at $200,000.
No word yet on if the woman who went with Emory to the bank has been identified and if she will face charges.
