Ice cream lovers could scoop up some prizes on the new Luzerne County Ice Cream Trail

Ice Cream Trail follows Visit Luzerne County’s spotlight on pizza and beer.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Traveling the Luzerne County Ice Cream Trail is not just sprinkles and sherbet.

There are prizes to be won.

More than 20 ice cream shops and parlors are participating in Visit Luzerne County’s ice cream trail, a summertime follow-up for the marketing organization’s efforts spotlighting the county’s beer and pizzamakers, Visit Luzerne County said. Encouraged by the success of its previous efforts, sundaes now share the spotlight with suds and cuts of Sicilian.

“It’s no coincidence that we’ve launched it just as the weather is starting to turn,” said Executive Director Alan Stout in a statement.

Ice cream enthusiasts can start down the trail by stopping by the Visit Luzerne County website and following the online prompts. By checking in at participating shops, they can collect points and redeem them to scoop prizes, including t-shirts, hats and beach towels.

Blue Ribbon Dairy is just one of the many small businesses taking part.

"We like that people choose us to come and sit down and have ice cream in our old-fashioned parlor, and they can take anything they'd like home with them as well," Kiki Sorick said. "Don't try to do it all in one day because however many shops are on the trail—25 to 30—that's a lot of sugar in one day."
