SHICKSHINNY, Pa. — Note: The above video is from an earlier story.
A 19-year-old Luzerne County man was drunk and behind the wheel during a crash in June that killed his passenger, state police at Shickshinny said Wednesday.
Tyler Mizell, of Hanover Township, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Shickshinny on charges of driving under the influence and homicide by vehicle. Magisterial District Judge Carol A. Davenport set bail at $250,000 and ordered that Mizell appear in Luzerne County Central Court on Oct. 7 for a preliminary hearing.
It was not immediately clear if Mizell has an attorney.
Mizell's charges stem from the June 22 crash that left 19-year-old Kaycee Kreitzer dead along Hunlock-Harveyville Road in Union Township.
According to state police, Mizell struck an embankment where the street intersects with Nevel Hollow Road just after 4 a.m.
The impact threw Kreizer from Mizell's Chevrolet Colorado. She died at the scene. Mizell was later discharged from Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
The incident marked his second alleged DUI crash in less than a year.
State police said he was drunk when he struck another driver, Arica Grabowski, in September last year on the San Souci Parkway. The crash hospitalized Grabowski.
Mizell pleaded guilty in that case earlier this year. He's slated for sentencing Oct. 10.
