HAZLETON, Pa. — A Luzerne County woman died this weekend at an Allentown hospital two weeks after a fire at her home, the Lehigh County coroner's office said Monday.

Lisa Thompson, 59, died from breathing in too much smoke Sept. 15 when a fire broke out at 604 Peace Street. Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio ruled her death an accident.

Firefighters in Hazleton rushed to the Peace Street apartment building at 6:30 a.m. that morning, the city fire department said soon after the fire. On the way, they learned a woman was trapped inside.

The victim, Thompson, was rescued but suffered smoke inhalation. She went from a hospital in Hazleton to a hospital in Allentown, where she died Sunday morning.

The cause of the fire was not immediately available Monday. Efforts to reach officials at the city fire department were unsuccessful. The state police fire marshals assisted the investigation, but a spokesman for Troop N, which covers Hazleton, referred inquiries to the city police department, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
