Luzerne County Fair returns this Wednesday

The annual Luzerne County Fair will be returning this week with plenty of fun activities.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — The annual Luzerne County Fair will kick off today at 4pm at Route 118 in Dallas.

Organizers are especially looking forward to this year's fair because last year's event was cut short.

"Our back gate caught on fire Thursday night from lightning striking a transformer back there.  We picked this fair back up again and Saturday it just came through like a rain I have never seen before," Luzerne County Fair Chairperson Brenda Pugh said.

Last year's fair was canceled after three days.  It was a big loss for vendors.

"They rely on this.  It's super important to them because for most of them they're just doing this for the summer," Pugh said.

Organizers are looking ahead to this year's festivities.  There are more than 200 vendors, dozens of rides and lots of free entertainment.  Shane Hansen and the Rock 'n Roll Circus has daily shows.

"I do juggling, I do trampoline, I do this thing called the loop to loop where I go faster and faster the louder the audience gets.  At the end I jump off a 65 foot pole into a small airbag," Shane Hansen said.

It's the first time at the fair for the Party Time Petting Zoo.

"We have cows and pigs and goats.  We're doing pony rides this year and we're doing a photo booth and all sorts of educational items," Kyle Evans said.

"Everything's included when you come down here as far as the rides, the entertainment, the ground acts that we have and the parking is free.  I don't know how much more we can do to give a great experience to our community," Pugh said.

The Luzerne County Fair kicks off at 4 o'clock this afternoon and runs through Sunday.
