WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — A man was dead and another locked up Tuesday following a shooting the day earlier in Luzerne County.
Authorities say Brandon Del Castillo shot and killed Lonnie Davis around 4 p.m. on East Northampton Street in Wilkes-Barre. Davis, 35, died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Del Castillo has gang affiliation, authorities say, but police believe the shooting was the violent end of a long-running feud between the two men over a woman.
" I know this sounds unusual, but we were actually relieved to find out that this was a long-standing feud between people and not just some random act — a drive-by shooting into a crowd or something like that," Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce said. "So, I can assure the people of Wilkes barre are still safe."
According to a search warrant filed in the investigation, police say they found the victim, later identified as Davis, lying wounded on the sidewalk. A witness gave police a description of the suspect's vehicle.
Another witness reported seeing a woman arguing with the victim on East Northampton Street. Then, a gunman, later identified as Del Castillo, arrive at the scene and shoot the victim three or four times.
The woman and Del Castillo got into an SUV and left.
Del Castillo was later arrested and was facing arraignment Tuesday for criminal homicide.
