Woman, 65, dead following crash on Turnpike in Luzerne County

State police said the crash happened when a car merged onto the Turnpike in the wrong direction

BEAR CREEK TOWNSHIP, PA — A 65-year-old woman died Thursday after a head-on crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Luzerne County, state police said Monday.

Veronica Robinson, of Scranton, succumbed to injuries she suffered in that crash near the Wilkes-Barre Interchange in Bear Creek Township. She was a passenger in a Nissan Altima struck by a Subaru Crosstrek that entered the Turnpike in the wrong direction at around 1 p.m., state police said.

The northbound Subaru merged onto the Turnpike via the interchange's southbound deceleration ramp and collided head-on with a southbound Nissan a short distance up the road, troopers said.

The driver of the Subaru, Leslie Horoshko, 82, of Dallas, was cited for driving in the wrong direction, state police said. Horoshko and the Nissan's driver, Tatiana Robinson, 31, of Scranton, were injured and hospitalized.
