DALLAS, Pa. — The Back Mountain Makery in Dallas is a place for creativity to shine. Tanya Sakulich created the shop along Memorial Highway just about a year ago.
"February 2 will be our first year in business. we have 80 local artists in our store. Any of those artists are welcome to host workshops," said Sakulich.
At the store, there are crafts on every type of canvas, even cookies.
"I've been baking since I was a little girl, honestly. My nana, I baked with her and my mom. My moms not much of a baker, she's more of the clean up crew," said Brittany Dyke.
Dyke is the owner of Brittany's Bakehouse in Kingston. Her home-baked business has exploded after starting it just eight years ago.
"I've always wanted to own a bakery. And I said 'it's now or never', so we're going to do this now, so I just started baking and it's just taken off ever since," added Dyke.
Now, Dyke is giving back to other cookie connoisseurs through her sugar cookie decorating classes held at the Back Mountain Makery.
"Now that I'm pretty confident in my craft, I wanted to pay it forward and teach other people on how to get started and answer any of their other questions so that they can be confident in their cookies as well," said Dyke.
She's giving out all the secrets behind her perfectly painted sweet treats.
"Kind of go in circular motions, and just move it and smooth it out," she directed.
Allowing even the most beginning bakers to take home a tasty masterpiece.
"I love doing this and to watch other people enjoy my craft, and to learn something that they can go home and do," added Dyke.
The Valentine's Day classes are already sold out. However, Dyke says she will be adding several classes for the upcoming holidays and changing seasons throughout the year.
Brittany's Bakehouse classes are listed on her website, and Dyke also provides Youtube tutorials on some of her recipes.
