WYOMING, Pa. — The nation's 250th birthday is coming up in a couple of years, and America250PA is an organization that is making sure everyone in the commonwealth is ready to celebrate.
One project underway to help in those efforts is the Liberty Tree Project. With the help of Pennsylvania Freemasons, America250PA is planting Liberty Trees in each of Pennsylvania's 67 counties.
On Saturday, lawmakers, reenactors, community groups, and more celebrated as Luzerne County received its own liberty tree; it has been planted at the site of the Wyoming Monument in Wyoming.
"But just like our nation, and when it comes to liberty, this young tree is going to blossom into something beautiful, and it needs that nurturing day in and day out," said Aaron Kaufer, (R) State Representative PA 102nd District.
These trees are all descendants of the last standing Liberty Tree from the American Revolution.
