Learning about the Civil Air Patrol in Luzerne County

Even though it was raining for a lot of the day, folks still came out to an airport in Luzerne County to learn about the Civil Air Patrol.

FORTY FORT, Pa. — The Civil Air Patrol's Open Day was held at the Wyoming Valley Airport in Forty Fort on Saturday.

The CAP was founded in the 1940s as a Civilian Aviation National Defense Service.

Now, it has evolved into a public service organization that still carries out emergency service missions when needed in the air and on the ground.

"It's to let people know what we are about to try to attract new members. We're lucky every open day we have got at least two or three new people in there, but you can never have enough, and the more your people come in and serve their community, and serve their country, the better it is," said Second Lieutenant Francis O'Looney - Composite Squadron 203
