WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Investigators from the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Luzerne County District Attorney's Office were joined Wednesday morning by forensic anthropologists from Mercyhurst University in northwestern Pennsylvania at a home along Carlisle Street in South Wilkes-Barre.
One of the last times crews from Mercyhurst University in Erie were called in to assist with an investigation was last year in Lackawanna County when the remains of missing Old Forge businessman Robert Baron were found.
Kathryn Mizzer was one of many neighbors in Wilkes-Barre who watched from their porches as police taped off a block surrounding the home on Carlisle Street Wednesday morning.
"It's scary because once you see the police vehicles around and everything like that, you know, it makes you wonder if something terrible is going on in my neighborhood," said Kathryn Mizzer, neighbor.
Police originally responded to the home Tuesday night. Investigators were seen walking in and out of the property with shovels and other equipment.
The home was monitored by police throughout the night and into Wednesday, when investigators could be seen on the second floor of the place, throwing around clothes and other items.
Police still aren't saying exactly what they are looking for or what led them to this property.
Mizzer says the investigation serves as a reminder to always be aware of what's going on around you, "If there seems to be anything you know suspicious going on in your neighborhood, don't just sit back and say you know, oh well, I'm not gonna make the call, make the call because it could be something very serious going on."
Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce says the investigation is ongoing, and he hopes to release more information on Thursday.
