LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — A charity mountain bike ride in Luzerne County this Sunday is going to the dogs.
"There are all types of fundraiser events out there, but I have yet to see anything from the mountain bike community where we all come together to raise money for something like an animal rescue shelter," said Amy Temarantz, the organizer of the ride at moon lake in Hunlock Creek.
The event benefits Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge in the Dallas area.
"This is not by any means a race. We're going out; we'll be stopping and going, regrouping, just enjoying each other's company on the trails, and raising money for a good cause."
Temarantz and her husband are big supporters of Blue Chip. They adopted two of their dogs there.
"Klinker, he is a border collie/cattle dog mix, and our Sadie girl, who is a staffie/cattle dog mix, both of which are a lot. They're extra, we'll call it, but they are sweethearts, and we're so happy we found them and brought them into our home."
Cedar Bicycle in Scranton is joining forces with Temarantz on the mountain bike ride. The crew is passionate about helping the underdogs.
"Our four-legged friends, and if you ride a mountain bike—or if you ride a bike in general because I'd hate to discriminate—you're family. And if you're family to us, we're going to take care of you. So that's what this ride means to us, and that's why we're happy to support Amy and support Blue Chip," said Missy Preslock from Cedar Bicycle.
It's a $10 donation to ride, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Blue Chip.
"Being able to bring two of my big passions together into one event really means a lot, not only to myself but I would probably say confidently to anybody that's going to be participating in this event," Temarantz added.
