Historic NEPA HBCU College Fair

A historic college fair is taking place this Wednesday in NEPA.

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. — Educational Opportunity Centers is a nonprofit that helps students and adults in nine counties with career and educational opportunities.

This Wednesday, the group is sponsoring a new college fair - the Historic Northeast PA HBCU College Fair. HBCU's are Historically Black Colleges or Universities.  There are more than 100 across the country and two in Pennsylvania.

"Let's create an opportunity to give students exposure to these kinds of colleges and universities," Brittany Stephenson of EOC said.

Organizers want to give students an idea of what the HBCU experience looks like.

"We're hoping to have some divine nine members, some fraternities and sororities to really come share what the intersection of academics and community and what that looks like," Stephenson said.

Students will be able to network and talk to admissions representatives.  Local organizations will also be at the college fair to provide general resources.

"Lots of information about FAFSA, filling out college applications, what is it like navigating college applications as a freshman," Stephenson said.

Organizers want students to know they have many options when it comes to their education.

"Picking a college or institution of your choice can be a very pivotal moment for your growth as a person so we want to be able to provide that exposure and give people the options they need to change the navigation for their future experiences in higher ed," Stephenson said.

The Historic Northeast PA HBCU College Fair is free and anyone is welcome to attend.  The event is this Wednesday from 10am-5pm at the Mohegan Sun Convention Center.
