Police incident ends peacefully in Luzerne County

A heavy police presence along Jumper Road in Plains Township began around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Tuesday afternoon, state and local police responded to a home in Plains Township for what they're calling a police incident. Neighbors tell us they were startled when they heard police barking commands at someone inside the house.

Jumper Road in Plains Township was shut down for hours as state police and local law enforcement rushed up the hill to East Mountain Ridge mobile home park.

"It's really startling," said Ron Stella, Plains Township.

Ron Stella lives across the street from this home on the corner of Jumper Road and Wren Court, where the incident unfolded, hearing commotion around 2 p.m. He did not want his face shown on camera.

"I heard noises, talking going on in the front of my building. I had an aide here, and I asked her to take a look, and she said it looked like there's police cars out there," Stella said.

Soon, an officer asked him to leave.

"The gentlemen that came to the door said that there was an incident, and we had to get out," explained Stella.

Stella says he wasn't physically able to leave and instead locked himself inside his home. Meanwhile, state police brought in an armored vehicle, and neighbors saw law enforcement surrounding the home.

"A lot of noise going on. They were talking to him with a loudspeaker to come out," said Stella.

At around 6 p.m., Stella says he heard three loud bangs and looked outside to see officers rushing into the home. Our cameras captured these dents on the front door and a shattered window on the side of the home.

"They went in, and then these guys came over. Eight or ten minutes later, they came out with him shirtless," Stella said.

Stella describes his neighbor as elderly and says he was taken away in an ambulance escorted by a police officer not long before Jumper Road reopened.

Stella says he's seen the man who lives in that house many times but has never spoken to him. Plains Township Police have yet to confirm any details as to the nature of this incident.
