National Night Out events go on despite rain

A number of communities in Northeastern and Central PA held their National Night Out festivities Tuesday evneing.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — A number of communities across Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania marked National Night Out on Tuesday evening as a chance for folks to come together with the first responders who serve them. 

In Hazleton, police used the occasion to cut the ribbon on their new headquarters along Church Street. Mayor Jeff Cusat called it a great opportunity to connect and learn. 

"We want the community to realize the police are here to help you. We want a relationship between the citizens and the police department and the fire department and everybody else that's in the city. We're here to help, and to serve and protect everybody that is a resident or a visitor of the city. " said Cusat. 

Besides police and first responders, folks in Hazleton also got the chance to visit numerous educational and craft vendors. 

Meanwhile, Williamsport there was a similar scene. 

Shaw Place Park was packed for Williamsport's own National Night Out 

The Williamsport Police Department hosted this event, which included a cookout, food trucks, free haircuts, and even inflatables for the kids. 

People were able to meet first responders and the city's K9- United. 

Police Tell us event like this give the community an opportunity to connect with law enforcement in a fun and positive way.
