HAZLETON, Pa. — Three names were on the ballot this election season for the position of Mayor of Hazleton, but the incumbent Republican came out on top.
Jeff Cusat has served two terms as mayor. Many of his supporters gathered Tuesday night at Cusat’s Cafe on Alter Street.
Challenging his office in City Hall was Democratic businessman Vianney Castro, who was promising a message of unity, as well as Independent candidate Cindee Deluca, hoping for more safety and financial accountability.
Mayor Jeff Cusat won reelection in a landslide. He told Newswatch 16 he is looking forward to continuing the plans he has in place for the city.
“We just want to continue what we’ve been doing,” said Mayor Jeff Cusat, Mayor of Hazleton. “We are working to move our police department to a brand new building, we’re moving county offices and services in City Hall, we’re moving a lot of things around that are going to help boost the area. And so if we have a lot of projects going on a lot, that will be announced soon and it’s just great to be able to finish them.”
Cusat won the election by more than 1,000 votes in Luzerne County.
