HAZLETON, Pa. — The Hazleton Art League in downtown Hazleton hosted its Art Youth Expo on the first Friday and Saturday of June to celebrate art and is hosting a summer camp.
After last week's expo, the art is now a part of a new exhibition, which is open for the remainder of the month for anyone to come check out. The goal of the art youth expo is to celebrate all types of art.
"The culinary arts, the performing arts, the ceramic arts, the paper, you know, so many different opportunities to express yourself," said Mark Peterson, Hazleton Art League Executive Director.
The event brings everyone in the community together with art, music, food, and more. Peterson said the Hazleton community is extremely diverse and invites everyone to visit Downtown Hazleton.
"We have so many cultures here in Hazleton. We have the Hispanic community, we have the Italian community, we have people from all over the world coming to Hazleton, so we want you to come to Hazleton! We want people to see what's happening downtown. We want people to come be a part of this thriving, wonderful community."
"It was really so much fun; I mean, we really want everybody to come down. We had wrestlers from the sanctuary walking around and taking pictures with the kids. We had models doing their thing from all over. We had people coming as far away as Allentown to be a part of this, so it was really fun!" added Peterson.
"We invited young bakers to sell their to the public and promote their little business, and they did not disappoint us. I still have several items in my fridge at home because I can't allow myself too many sweets a day, but I couldn't resist buying them; they were scrumptious," said Dr. Carl Frankel, President Board of Hazleton Art League.
Continuing with its mission of celebrating young artists and bringing everyone together through art, the Hazleton Art League is in the fourth year of its art summer camp. This year's camp starts on Monday, June 17.
Children ages 6 to 14 can come together, play, and learn about different styles of art and artists throughout history. This year, the summer camp is offering a fun new feature for kids to explore the outdoors and make art along with it: Microscopes.
"We can photograph what you're seeing through the microscope. And one of the things we're going to do is go to Nescopeck State Park, and we are going to take the kids to collect bits of leaves or maybe a bug or a stick and take that and put that under the microscope take that photograph it and then create an artwork based on what they seeing through the microscope," said Peterson.
The Hazleton Art League is already planning next month's exhibition. Which will highlight icon art and pysanki eggs.
