HARVEYS LAKE, Pa. — Dozens of Christmas trees are on display at Grotto Pizza in Harvey's Lake. It's the 29th year for the Parade of Trees tradition at the pizza shop.
Twenty-eight different trees line the dining room, each one decorated by a nearby business to support a charity. Throughout the holiday season, customers can vote for their favorite tree by making a donation.
"We have a lot of charities that don't get a lot of national recognition. While you will see charities that you do know, that are important, you will also find charities that you don't hear about that are very local in their nature. That's a cool part of it and I think it adds a lot of the enthusiasm," said Tony DeCosmo, Grotto Director of Marketing.
The trees with the most customer donations will also get an extra boost from Joseph and Erma Paglianite Charitable Foundation. The charity created in honor of Grotto's original owners and giving back to the community where the company was founded.
"It's important to us because we've always been more of a community hub. It's more than just being a restaurant, it's a place where people gather. So many people started their careers working at Grotto Pizza, making pizza, serving tables. It's really one giant family. This event is a way to give back, at a time where everybody loves this time of year," added DeCosmo.
Since its' inception, the Parade of Trees has raised more than half a million dollars. The Parade of Trees will be on display in the main dining room at Grotto Pizza Harveys Lake through New Year's Eve.
