WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Ten turkeys were handed off to lucky winners every ten minutes on Tuesday inside Casa Blanca Bar and Restaurant on Hazle Street in Wilkes-Barre.
The giveaway is thanks to a partnership within the Hispanic community.
"All the community, we have a Latino group, we get together sometimes, and we were talking about doing something for the community," explained owner Miguel Perdomo. "And we started, and we're ready, so that's the way we go."
"I didn't even think twice. I said, 'Yes, let's do it.' Why not?" said Barbara Moralez, Ritmo-FM's general manager and host. "This is actually the first time a radio station does this, and we're really happy. We are a Spanish radio station. And we're just happy to do this for the community."
Ritmo-FM promoted this giveaway on the airwaves and social media. All people had to do was show up.
"We feel so grateful when we can do that," said Perdomo.
"People always want to spend their money on gifts, and that's why we're doing this, so they don't have to spend their money on the turkey, which we know how high is the food cost right now," said Moralez.
"We feel so good. Every time we do something for the community, something like you feel you want to do from the bottom of your heart," added Perdomo.
Those involved say they hope to give away even more turkeys next year.
