LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — More than 200 Luzerne County students heard a message of empowerment at the sixth-annual Girl Power in STEM program at Penn State Hazleton.
On Tuesday morning, middle and high school girls from Hazleton Area, Weatherly Area, Immanuel Christian, MMI Prep, and Keystone Job Corps got to hear from women in STEM careers.
This year's theme was "Making Connections."
The speakers shared information about their path to a STEM career and the importance of making connections with other women.
"It's important to show girls what they can be," said Cathy Colangelo, executive director of Greater Hazleton Partners in Education. "I don't know where I heard it, but it's, 'You can't be what you can't see.' So, we are giving exposure to all kinds of different career paths."
The girls met with representatives from about 40 businesses, secondary educational institutions, and community organizations.
