KIRBY PARK — Vendors are gearing up in Wilkes-Barre for the Diamond city’s annual Fourth of July celebrations. Live music and fireworks are set for Monday night at Kirby Park and people have been packing the park since Monday morning.

From crazy caricatures to fun rides and good food, Wilkes-Barre’s Fourth of July event in Kirby Park is old fashioned fun.

Crowds of people started jamming into the park early, around 10 a.m. Monday, even as some vendors were still setting up.  But Incredible Popcorn of Bloomsburg was ready. Their workers set up two days ago.

“It’s packed! There’s just lines everywhere, people everywhere in a hurry to get everything they possibly can before the fireworks start,” said Jeremy Evans, Incredible Popcorn.

“What I’m really excited about are these fireworks,” said Erika Winkleblack of Factoryville.

City officials want to remind people that alcohol, glass containers, smoking and personal fireworks are never allowed in Kirby Park. And for this event, dogs will not be allowed either.

That’s why one family plans to go home, drop off their four-legged friends and come back for the fireworks.

“Definitely! Every year, we don’t miss it! You can’t miss it, ever since my kids were babies they came here, now they’re 22 and 18,” said Allen Georgetti.

Many people agree that Kirby Park is the place to be this Fourth of July. The Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic begins performing at 7:30 p.m. followed by fireworks at dusk.
