Former President Trump hosts rally near Wilkes-Barre

Newswatch 16's Jack Culkin was inside Mohegan Arena as the Republican presidential nominee addressed his supporters.

WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Thousands have converged at Mohegan Arena in Wilkes-Barre Township for the anticipated campaign trip by former President Donald Trump. Something many people tell us they have been waiting a long time for.

Sounds of motorcycles and vendors selling commemorative merchandise filled the parking lot at Mohegan Arena in Wilkes-Barre Township on Saturday as people from as far away as Illinois prepared for former President Trump's campaign rally.

Many of his supporters are excited to see the republican nominee during his stop in Luzerne County.

Bruce Smith of Dallas says Pennsylvania is one of the most important places for Trump's campaign to focus on.

"President Trump is coming to town, and this is a battleground county. This is Ground Zero, right? We've got to win the state because the choice is obvious," said Bruce Smith, Dallas.

For others, it's another chance to see Trump continue what he started back when he was in office.

"I've been a Democrat for more than 40 years, and listening to him, I changed parties. His policies work. Everybody knows it," said Larence Recek, Lehman Township.

Newswatch 16 will have more on former President Trump's visit to Luzerne County on Newswatch 16 at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.
