Former Crestwood band director convicted of sex crimes

Theron Roberts was found guilty of corruption of minors, institutional sexual assault, and indecent assault.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — At a retrial in Luzerne Count court, a jury found a former Crestwood School District band director guilty of illegal and inappropriate contact with a student in 2019.

After about an hour of deliberations on Thursday, Theron Roberts was found guilty of corruption of minors, institutional sexual assault, and indecent assault.

Roberts was initially charged in December of 2021.

Roberts was put on administrative leave from his position at Crestwood when the allegations were made and later terminated.

A judge in Luzerne County declared a mistrial at Roberts' first trial in September 2023.

He remains free on bail and is scheduled to be sentenced in September.
