HANOVER TOWNSHIP -- Officials say the driver of the white Mercury Sable was killed on impact after her car and a black pick-up truck crashed nearly head on in front of the Dundee Gardens in Hanover Township.
It happened on the northbound side of the Sans Souci Parkway around 11:00 a.m. Monday.
The coroner tells us Joan Madden, 82, was killed in the wreck along the Sans Souci Parkway near Wilkes-Barre.
The Luzerne County coroner says the woman died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the pick-up truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Although the investigation into the cause of this crash is still in its early stages some people say this intersection can be a dangerous place.
Sally Campbell was one of the first people on the scene and says this intersection needs improvements.
"It needs some work. It needs people to take some surveys to see how they can improve things here," said Campbell.
Brian McDermott says he'd like to see a traffic light return at the intersection of the Sans Souci and the South Cross Valley.
Traffic patterns at this intersection recently changed after construction on the Route 29 bridge wrapped up several weeks ago.
"There`s always a lot of accidents this way at the top of the intersection here getting on 29, getting off 29 and like I said with the extra traffic for the holidays," said McDermott.
Because of the holiday, PennDOT offices were closed today and no officials were available to comment on whether this is a problem intersection.
