WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Gamers across the state came together for the PA Esports Championship at Wilkes University.
The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Esports Association (PIEA) at Wilkes University hosted the event. Eight high school teams took part in the championship. Team-based and individual events allowed them to show off their gameplay in games like Overwatch and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Four teams played Overwatch on Saturday, and four teams played Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Sunday.
"We're here to support any school that is looking to kind of allow their students to compete in Esports. We know that it's a growing phenomenon across the Commonwealth, across the country. And you know, we wanted to provide a structured and safe environment for the students to play and compete, and that's what we offer, and we're excited that every year we grow," said Bill Thomas with Pennsylvania Interscholastic Esports Association.
This was the 4th year for the Esports championship.
