Victims of domestic violence honored at event in Luzerne County

The annual event, held on Thursday, is a memorial to victims who have lost their lives to domestic violence in Luzerne and Carbon Counties.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — An annual event was held in Wilkes-Barre on Thursday to honor victims of domestic violence.

The Domestic Violence Service Center in Wilkes-Barre hosted its annual "Empty Place at the Table" in the rotunda of the Luzerne County Courthouse.

The event honors victims who have lost their lives to domestic violence in Luzerne and Carbon counties.

"Domestic Violence is very prevalent, and it's often not spoken of about, and it's not reported because of the stigma associated with it, so we do want to raise awareness again to have our community and individuals unite with us in the fight against domestic violence," said Marsha Pigga, Domestic Violence Service Center Exec. Director.

The Domestic Violence Service Center has been helping survivors of domestic violence and their dependent children since 1976.
